The ETIAS travel authorization is a new document that will be required for some visitors to Europe starting in 2025. It is important to understand who needs it to avoid any surprises when planning your trip. The system will require previously visa-free travelers to pre-register for travel authorization to any of the Schengen Area countries. If you are a national of an EU country, Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland, you do not need a student visa to study in Italy. If you are not a national of these countries, you may need a student visa depending on your nationality, purpose, and duration of stay. For stays not exceeding 3 months, nationals from certain non-EU countries may not be required to have a visa, while others must apply for a short-stay visa. For stays exceeding 3 months, a long-stay visa is required. Use our visa tool to determine whether you need a visa.
All of our partner language schools are accredited by the Italian Ministry of Education, which means student visas are available for students enrolling in their programs.
Visa applications may take from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, depending on the nationality on your passport and the type of visa.
To begin, choose an Italian language school that matches your preferences. Once you’ve selected a school, complete the application form, pay the tuition fee, and receive the Enrollment Certificate required for your visa application. Next, arrange for health insurance and secure accommodation for your stay. Finally, schedule a visa appointment with the Italian embassy or consulate in your area, where you’ll present all necessary documents, including the Enrollment Certificate, to apply for your visa. No worries, we can assist with all this if you reach out to us.
You should submit your application to the Italian consulate or embassy in the country where you currently reside legally. It is important to apply at the appropriate consulate or embassy based on your current location. You can schedule an appointment by following the guidelines provided on the embassy’s official website. In some cases, you might only need to contact them via email, while other embassies require you to use the “Prenot@mi” online system for booking appointments. We can guide you for this as well.
You can typically expect to be asked for: passport, ID photographs, school enrollment certificate, proof of accommodation and proof of financial means. Depending on your situation, additional documents may be required, such as your last completed degree, resume, insurance certificate, round-trip flight ticket, etc. Certain embassies may require applicants for a student visa to demonstrate a basic knowledge of Italian.
For a comprehensive and accurate list of required documents, we recommend visiting your local consulate or embassy.
Students that wish to live and study long-term in Italy should be able to demonstrate a monthly income of €1000 roughly. However, we always recommend to prepare as much above this amount as possible.
Applicants are responsible for covering the administrative fees associated with their visa application. Please note that these fees are not associated with Go! Go! Italia but are directly related to the visa process. In general, the fee for short-stay visas is 35€, while for long-stay visas it amounts to 50€. This amount is given as an indication, some special cases may give rise to different rates.
